Our mission is to provide comprehensive services with great care and integrity to children and families in order to equip them with skills and knowledge to grow and develop.
Founded by Rita Sell, a parent of a son with Angelman Syndrome and Epilepsy readily acknowledges the right for every child and family to be treated with dignity and respect they deserve and desire. “I believe every beginning is a blessing. Our children are blessings not curses or burdens. My desire is to change society’s preconceived judgments of our children one person at a time.”
Rita has a Master's degree in counseling education, has many years experience as a child/family therapist, early childhood educator, and is a mom of three beautiful boys; Ryan is 20, Christopher is 15, and Scotty is 9. Rita periodically presents seminars such as; “The Secret Life of a Special Needs Family”, and “My child has a developmental delay! Now what?” to families and professionals. Seminars are free to families. She is available to speak to small or large groups to address any topic relating to the developmentally disabled population. You can reach her at 800-683-1924 ext 8 or 716-204-8285 (rita.sell@bbfsonline.com)
Providing service coordination and seminars enables us to successfully link families to appropriate resources in their community. Putting the child first and collaborating with the parents regarding their goals for their child, will allow the family to feel “heard” in the process of setting goals. The medical model is obsolete and we must encourage parents to speak up and advocate for their own children.
