HI! I am Scotty Sell and I am 9 years old. My family was told when I was 1 year old that I had Cerebral Palsy. June 22, 2009 Mommy got confirmation that what I really have is Angelman Syndrome. Cool name isn't it? Because Mommy and Daddy tell me everyday that I am their angel sent from God. I encourage you to look this syndrome up, it is quite interesting. It is a rare disease, about 1 in 15,000-30,000 babies are born with this. So that makes me even more-extra special. God has told my Mommy that this was not a "mutation" and there is purpose in all he does. Please read Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future": and Psalm 139:14 "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well". I was chosen to be happy and smile all the time.
Becasue I have Angelman Syndrome; I experience seizures everyday and am on a few medications to help manage them. I also have asthma, severe reflux, a sensory processing disorder and am legally blind. To be honest, I don’t really notice all of these things the doctors say I have. I just love every day. I love my older brothers, Ryan and Christopher and my mommy and daddy are pretty nice to have around too. Whenever you see me, I will be smiling. My mommy says I am “pure joy and full of love”. I am not able to talk like you, but I definitely have alot to say. I do try to say words every day. My parents pray every day for me to not have seizures any more. I don’t want them to worry about me. God made me just perfect the way I am.
I love water. I love to splash in it and swim whenever I can. I love to dance and sing and go for walks every chance I can. If you are sad, I do my best to make you giggle. I think life is too short to sweat the small stuff. If you know you are loved, you have no excuse to be grumpy or sad. Try smiling! Your heart will be filled with joy instantly. Trust me it works!
Here is a poem I wrote. Well, my mommy wrote it as if I did. She knows me pretty well. She prays a lot to God and sometimes she calls him “Daddy”. She says He is our Heavenly Father and the love He has for us is so huge He likes to be called Daddy sometimes.
Through My Daddy’s Eyes
If you saw me through my Daddy’s eyes:
You wouldn’t stare or look past me as if I wasn’t there
You would look at me and say “hello”
If you saw me through my Daddy’s eyes:
You wouldn’t ignore my smile.
You would allow yourself to be blessed by it.
If you saw me through my Daddy’s eyes:
You wouldn’t see a retarded person.
You’d see a person who knows the secrets of the heavenlies beyond your imaginations.
If you saw me through my Daddy’s eyes:
You would know what I found so funny
You’d laugh with me rather than shushing me
If you saw me through my Daddy’s eyes:
You wouldn’t fear or hate me or others like me.
You’d experience all the love I have to give.
If you saw me through my Daddy’s eyes:
You’d share in the Joy of the Lord with me rather than suffer in depression.
If you saw me through my Daddy’s eyes:
You would get to know my name rather than walking past me.
If you saw me through my Daddy’s eyes:
You wouldn’t feel sorry for me.
You’d rejoice in the Lord with me.
If you saw me through my Daddy’s eyes:
You would know that I do not care if you hate or fear me… I love you anyway.
If you saw me through my Daddy’s eyes:
You’d want to know my secret to happiness.
You see: I see you through my Daddy’s eyes.
